YOUR UNION IS FRONT AND CENTER at the 24th annual Virginia AFL-CIO state conference in Williamsburg. The AFL-CIO is essentially a union of unions, government and private sector, where we collectively gather to discuss issues facing organized labor and the working class throughout the state of Virginia.
This weekend we are here to cast votes as delegates of CWA, for state candidate endorsements in the upcoming elections. These candidates have been interviewed by the AFL-CIO and will only receive endorsements if they have adequately proven themselves to be pro-worker and anti-right-to-work... regardless of their political affiliation. Our votes will be cast on Saturday.
Today, your CWA Delegates Regina Lawrence (SFC), Amber Bartlett (CSSC), and Joe Fekete (FSC) are attending workshops to improve our Local's knowledge in Workman's Comp, Voter Registration, Media Relations, and Rules of Order. These members are expected to take this knowledge and pass it on so we can improve in these areas, and the AFL-CIO has provided some great information.
With almost four years left in our contract and relative harmony with our Management, CWA 2205 is in "peacetime positioning". This means we should take this time to sharpen our tools, fortify our relationships with our members and other unions, expel time and energy working for pro-labor candidates, as well as preparing our own houses for the next contract fight. We must remain prepared and vigilant. We have much to improve and it's all of our responsibility to make it better.
