CWA is a political Powerhouse stronger and better than ever! The Legislative Political Conference’s are like one other. Armed with political savvy, and union support, CWA the driving force that makes the difference, and create change, emerged on Capitol Hill demanding justice for the working class people. The ninety-nine percent!
CWA made history by hosting the “We the People Conference”. Which consist of various organizations united together from all walks of life to fight for Justice for all. This has never been done before, Again, CWA on the cutting edge.
During the afternoons, Local 2205 along with other CWA locals, took to the hill in solidarity fighting for the rights of the working class people. Equipped with a strategic game plan, appointments scheduled well in advance to meet with members of Congress and Senate at their offices, compilation of facts, printed materials, giveaway packets of information to leave with each office of our concerns, we professionally stated our case gaining more political support to champion our causes. The issues discussed were Workplace Democracy Act, Wage Act, Abolish Right to Work Laws, U.S Call Center Worker and Consumer Protection Act, Telecom and Media Policy, Fair Trade, Tax Code, Voting Rights, Campaign Finance Reform, and Health Care.
Local 2205 met with Senator Kaine for over an hour. This exchange turned into a planning session. We also met with Senator Warner’s office, Congressman Rob Wittman, Scott Taylor, Donald McEachn, Tom Garrett, Bob Goodlatte, Donald Beyer and Barbara Comstock office and Bobby Scott who he himself left a meeting to speak with us.
The days were long and very fulfilling, at the end of each day, we accomplished our goals.
We left Capitol Hill with more political supporters. Job well done!
